Antenna Project Homepage - The NEW transmitter site up and running!

As of Monday February 23, 2009: Crisper Sound, Wider Reach from NorthSound 1380 (KRKO-AM)!

On May 30, 2008, the Federal Communications Commission issued the construction permit necessary to allow KRKO to increase power to 34,000 watts daytime/50,000 watts at night!  The transmitter site is now up and running. As of Monday February 23, 2009 we are broadcasting from there at full power.

We are serving the entire Northern Puget Sound region as no radio station has done before:

  • Virtually all of the populated areas of Snohomish County and many areas further north and west are able to tune in clear reception of 50,000-watt NorthSound 1380 programming.
  • Listeners in buildings and homes have improved reception in Snohomish County.
  • We have converted to High Definition Radio, or HD Radio. This means much better, richer sound if you have a new digital receiver, but you can still get reception as always on an older set.
  • Wider-reaching coverage enables NorthSound 1380 to serve a vital function in the case of emergencies or school closures. For this reason, NorthSound emergency service providers, fire departments, police departments and school districts are excited to have the new transmitter up and running.

We invite you to learn more about AM radio, how it works, and why so many AM radio transmitter sites are located on salt-water and in river valley environments.  Click here to see our photo gallery.
